8 days Occitanie
A trip to to Soréze in the southwest of France, the Midi-Pyrénées is a region known by the Cathars and the Templars, but also famous for their delicious Roquefort cheese. The capital Toulouse with its beautiful squares or Albi with the Gothic church are just a few of the special sights that we will discover during these eight days. Of course the wine will not be missed on this trip!

Day 1:  Soréze
The journey starts with your flight to Toulouse where we will pick you up. From here we travel by bus to our hotel in Soréze. Depending on the arrival time at the airport we drive either directly to the hotel or we take a little detour while we collect a few first impressions of the area.

Day 2: Toulouse
Toulouse was in the Middle Ages the capital of the former Languedoc provence. During a tour we discover the old city with its many beautiful streets and buildings. In the evening you have time to visit a museum yourself, to shop or just to have a cold drink at a bar. Toulouse has many specialties from the region to offer!

Day 3: Roquefort – Millau
We follow a beautiful route through the regional nature park Haut-Languedoc as we drive to the place Roquefort. Roquefort is known for its blue cheese and produced in big wheels which weigh around 2.5 kilograms. One of the producers from the village will show us how the cheese is been made. After a small cheese tasting we continue to Millau. We will visit the Millau Viaduct that is a 2460 meter long cable-stayed bridge that spans the gorge valley of the Tarn near Millau in southern France.

Day 4: Mirepoix – Foix
The bastide town of Mirepoix was rebuilt in the 13th century following a flood. From its medieval past it has preserved a 14th-century fortified gate and a stunning market square surrounded by beautiful half-timbered houses whose first floors jut out over the square creating an arcaded walkway below. Around midday we arrive in Foix. The most dominating feature of Foix, the castle, is also the focal point of the town's history and the centre of our visit. The castle held out in the 13th century against the attack of the crusaders.

Day 5: Castres – Hautpoul
You will start with having a morning to yourself. In the afternoon we go to Hautpoul, a picturesque village in the mountains. Here we will enjoy the peaceful atmospehere and views. In Mazamet we visit the Cathar museum that shows us the history of the Cathars.

Day 6: Albi – Gallac wine region
Today we visit Albi with the largest brick church in the world, the Sainte Cécile cathedral. Due to the different wars this church was built as a kind of fortress with very thick walls. The city is also known for its painter Toulouse-Lautrec. In Albi we will pay a visit to the museum that is dedicated to this artist. West of Albi lies the wine region Gallac, where each wine region has its own specialty. We will visit a wine region where we will do a tour that provides us informatie about the wine production from this area. We finish the evening with a visit to a restaurant in the neighborhood.

Day 7: Cahors
Today is the last day in the Pyrenees and we start our day with a visit to the beautiful valley Saint-Cirq Lapopie. Fresh out of the Middle Ages, this village in partly a listed monument that can best be discovered by foot. That way we can absorb the nobility of its architecture, the elegance of its arcades, flights of steps, fortified gates…The village lies on the cliffs of the left bank of the Lot, almost 100 meters higher than the river itself. After that we continue to Cahors where they have their own wine producing area. This bishop's city is also on the river Lot. The historic centre with its narrow streets and impressive buildings gives a sense of the power that Cahors used to have. Dinner is on our way back to Castres.
