7 days Provence

Provence, with its beautiful countryside, picturesque villages and markets, and the aromas of lavender, it is the purpose of this trip to the South of French. A lot of artists in this area are inspired by the landscape, specially the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. This trip is not only a cultural journey; and also the French 'joie de vivre' to learn with all your senses to enjoy what this region has to offer. The variety of these trip takes us to the impressive Pont du Gard, Avignon, the cultural city of Aix-en-Provence.

2nd daySaint Rémy de Provence – Camargue

We follow in the footsteps of the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh in Saint Rémy de Provence. Van Gogh discovered the beauty of this landscape and the quality of the incidence of light in painting. In one year, he created nearly 150 paintings and numerous drawings. In the afternoon we continue into the extraordinary and mysterious world of the swamp and lake landscape of the Camargue. The landmark of this area is the flamingo, the famous white Camargue horses and the black bulls that live here in the wild. From Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer we take a boat trip on the Rhône through the Camargue Regional Natural Park.

3rd dayCoustellet – Gordes – Roussillon – Apt

A drive through the picturesque countryside of Provence brings us to the lavender-museum in Coustellet. Lavender is closely linked to Provence. In the museum we learn all about the challenges of lavender cultivation, its history, its effects, its qualities and the future. Then we drive to Gordes, a beautiful place that is slightly higher and offers a beautiful view of the landscape. Than Roussillon, where we can admire the ocher-colored mountains. The red hills owe their color to the ocher-colored content of the earth. Paint is also made from this raw material. In the afternoon we scorn ourselves with the famous candied fruits from the region, of course with a tasting of all different types.

4th dayAvignon – Pont du Gard

Avignon was thé capital of christianity in the middle ages and is still shaped by this era. During a city tour we pass the Saint Bénézet bridge, which became known for the nursery rhyme "Sur le pont d'Avignon". We discover the small streets, squares, paved with pebbles from the Rhône and typical of this area. In the afternoon, the Pope Palace is scheduled, the largest Gothic palace in Europe. Afterwards there will be enough time for shopping or a drink on a terrace before continuing to the Roman aquaduct Pont du Gard. The bridge is impressively high and is one of the best preserved water channels in French from Roman times, which also supplied the city of Nîmes with water. During a tour of the museum and the aquaduct we learn all about the water supply of the Romans. We have dinner in a restaurant between Pont du Gard and Saint Martin de Castillon.
